One of my favourite jokes involves a teacher at an interview who when he says he has 20 years teaching experience is told that he actually has one year’s experience 20 times! For many of us our use of Pro Tools is like that. We might spend hours every day working in Pro Tools but most of us spend those hours doing the things we always do.

This leads me to another of my favourite jokes.

A woodcutter goes into the forest. The first day he cuts twenty trees. however each day he cuts fewer until on the tenth day he only manages five trees. His friend suggests that he gets his saw sharpened to which the woodcutter replies “I don’t have time for that, I’ve got too many trees to cut”.

Hopefully you can see already where this is going. It’s important to take some time to explore or reacquaint ourselves with our tools.
