Analog Digital Hybrid Studio For Scottish University With Audient Mixer & Avid S3

Our friends at HHB Communications Ltd recently supplied and installed an interesting music production recording system at the Alness campus of North Highland College, part of University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) in Scotland which they describe as a hybrid system.

Analog Console With Pro Tools And An S3 Control Surface

This system is based around an Audient ASP4816 mixer and an Avid Pro Tools HD Native DAW, the hybrid analogue and digital system will provide students with an extensive range of technology that can be used for traditional multi-microphone recording and computer-based composition. In addition, HHB has supplied an Avid S3 control surface, a range of outboard processors, cabling and technical furniture from StudioRacks. The live acoustic music scene in Scotland is vibrant, especially because music is an integral part of both primary and secondary education in Scotland.

To ensure the most efficient installation and commissioning process, HHB configured and built the complete system at their London base before packing everything up and shipping it to Scotland. Two of the HHB installation team flew to Inverness to carry out the on-site installation and training. Andrew Hingley, Sales Manager at HHB explained to us. “This has been an interesting project as we needed to balance the college’s teaching requirements with the available budget and some restraints on the physical space. The combination of the Audient analogue mixer with Avid Pro Tools and S3 controller provides an exciting hybrid system, that can be used for almost any type of music production.”

Peter Noble, lecturer at North Highland College added, “After receiving a number of quotes for our studio installation we went with HHB due to their attention to detail. Throughout the process HHB listened to our needs and focused on the specification and flexibility of our studio solution. They provided a variety of options at a variety of prices and came back with tweaks throughout the procurement. The installation was thorough and HHB have been available and quick to respond to any queries.”

So all in all a very interesting solution to the requirements and budget that North Highland College presented to HHB. What solutions would you have presented in this situation?
