How To Quick Access Pro Tools AudioSuite Plugins

Did you know you can set up favourites for AudioSuite plugins in a similar way as you can AAX plugins? Here’s how to do it.

If you’re in a hurry here’s the punchline: Command-Click on your most used AudioSuite plugin. Use Control on a PC. It will now appear at the top of the list!

I didn’t know you could do that and I’m sure lost of other people didn’t too so this has to be one of thos facepalm moments which can really improve workflows.

Who Even Cares About AudioSuite These Days?

For general processing the days of using AudioSuite to spare the CPU are long behind us but even with Clip Effects available AudioSuite is still very relevant in 2021. There are a significant number of processes which are only available in AudioSuite. My favourite example is Reverse - Explain how a real time reverse plugin would work? There are others and for me the big ones are RX De-plosive and the Pro Limiter Loudness Analyser.

When editing podcasts I usually only realise that a particular guest is going to be ‘poppy’ when I’m already mid-edit and at that point I’m reluctant to send the whole track over to RX for processing so I’ll open RX De-plosive and leave the window open until the speaker settles back into a better position relative to the mic. This works fine but setting up quick access to the plugin is a far better solution.

How To Remove AS Favourites

You are able to set up favourite AAX plugins but are limited to a default EQ and a default Dynamics plugin only. This system in AudioSuite is more flexible as you can set up as many as you like (actually I stopped at 4 but if you need 25 favourites I’d love to know what you’re doing with them all). Removing them from the favourites list is as simple as Command clicking on them again and the plugins which have been elevated to favourite status appear in bold in the drop down list.

It’s obvious when you know but did you know this one?
