Avid Pro Tools 2021.12 Released With Video Hardware Support

Avid has released Pro Tools 2021.12. This release is largely a bug fix release with one new feature, which adds support for Avid’s own Artist I/O range of video hardware units. We have all the details.

Video Hardware Support on Apple Silicon

Although Pro Tools 2021.10 added video playback support on Apple Silicon powered computers, it was only for playing videos on your computer desktop. There was no support for any video hardware units.

Pro Tools 2021.12 nows adds support for Avid’s DNxIO, DNxIQ, DNxID, DNxIV and DNxIP video hardware units with Apple Silicon computers. Note: Not all drivers may be qualified at the time of release. Please review Avid’s driver compatibility page before updating.

Make Sure All Your Plugins Are Supported

Avid is also advising all users, especially Apple Silicon users to make sure that all third party plug-ins have also been updated to ensure compatibility. Please be aware that plugins without an updated version of PACE software may cause Pro Tools 2021.10 or 2021.12 to crash.

Pro Tools 2021.12 Bug Fix List

Control Surfaces

  • The S6 Master Post Meter Module will now show input signal when in record with the Off Disk Meter Mode preference on. All other times it will show off disk data, as before.

Editing

  • Fixed an issue where the parameters in the Elastic Properties window were not displayed.

Dolby Atmos Workflows

  • Width changing plug-ins will once again no longer allow object assignments in certain cases, which would prevent an ADM export due to the invalid assignment. Existing illegal object assignments will be removed, and a warning message will be presented.

Installer

  • Fixed an issue that prevented HDX from being available after the first installation of the HD driver on macOS.

macOS Monterey

Please note that although Pro Tools is still not officially supported with macOS Monterey, Avid are already fixing issues that have come with macOS 12 Monterey.

  • Pro Tools will no longer crash on launch when encountering certain plug-ins that are not yet compatible with macOS Monterey. A warning message will be presented during Pro Tools launch, offering to move plug-ins to the unused folder, or AAE Error -7065 will appear upon instantiating the plug-in.

  • Fixed a crash that would occur when using X-Form Elastic Audio processing on macOS Monterey.

  • Transfer to Melodyne, or performing an Audio to MIDI operation, will no longer crash on macOS Monterey.

  • The Pro Tools crash reporter will no longer hang on macOS Monterey.

Performance

  • Greatly improved automation playback performance on host-based systems, including HDX Hybrid Engine in non-DSP mode. Prevents -9155 errors in many cases.

Pro Tools | Carbon

  • Fixed an issue that caused Pro Tools to occasionally lose connection with Pro Tools | Carbon.

Production Management / Interplay

  • Fixed an issue that would cause incorrect placement of a sequence on the timeline when using drop frame timecode rates with Production Management.

  • Fixed an issue that would cause certain clips to be one frame too short when using drop frame timecode rates with Production Management.

What Do You Think?

There you have it. Its nice to see that Avid is already fixing macOS Monterey issues even though Pro Tools is not yet qualified to use with Monterey.

Do any of the bug fixes resolve issues you have been fighting? Do share in the comments.
