The Pro Tools Signal Generator is something I find I use far more than I’d expect, whether I’m testing equipment, lining up levels or bleeping out a bad word. One example where the difference this video illustrates is when I was demonstrating with the difference between checking the mono compatibility of a mix by summing to mono and playing the resulting audio via a stereo pair of monitors compared to checking mono through a single monitor.

A great way to show the difference is to play some pink noise through the monitors. The thing is a Signal Generator on a stereo track gives very different results to a Signal Generator on a mono track - Why?
