Free Avid Pro Tools Control App - Get The Best From The Monitoring Section With These Free Tutorials

Since the new monitoring section was added to the Pro Tools Control app for iOS devices with the release of Pro Tools 2019.5 and Eucon 19.5, we have had some questions about how it works and how it fits into a Pro Tools workflow. This first free video tutorial from Avid explains how to use the monitoring section of the Pro Tools Control App in conjunction with Eucon enabled hardware…

In this tutorial you can see the tight integration between the Pro Tools Control app, the DADman software and Pro Tools.

The tutorial also shows how you can use the Avid S3 control surface to control the mic preamps in the Avid MTRX, adding to the excellent integration between hardware and software.

Users can now control any EUCON-enabled monitoring system, including Pro Tools MTRX, XMON, monitor sources in Pro Tools, right from your iPad. This means that you can do so much more with just an iPad and the free Pro Tools Control app. All these features and more are now available with Pro Tools 2019.5, Eucontrol 19.5.0 and Pro Tools Control app 19.5.0.

With the free Avid Pro Tools Control iOS app, you can now control any EUCON-enabled monitoring system-including XMON, Pro Tools MTRX, D-MON, as well as the monitoring sections in Pro Tools, Nuendo, Cubase, and Pyramix. In this next free video tutorial, Avid product specialist Jeff Komar shows how you can now take full control of source selections, speaker cuts, talkback, cues, and more.

The monitoring view in the Pro Tools Control app will now let you assign and manage monitor controls. The Monitoring view will support any hardware or software application with a Eucon Monitor section, including the Pro Tools MTRX, Avid XMON and Studio Monitor Pro 2.

Users working with DAWs other than Pro Tools like Nuendo, Cubase, and Pyramix, the Main (level), and Cut (mute) are also supported in Pro Tools without MTRX or XMON when you Enable EUCON Monitor as long as you have Pro Tools 2018.7 or higher. This new Monitoring view includes…

  • Source Switching And Summing

  • Individual Speaker Enables

  • Engage FoldDown and UpMatch Presets

  • Assign Input Sources to Cue Monitors

Be aware though, that for users fortunate enough to have an Avid S6, Monitoring view is not available in the Pro Tools Control app when used simultaneously with an S6.

Eucon Monitor Control With The DAD AX32

As you may be aware the Avid MTRX is based on the DAD AX32 and since this collaboration the AX32 no longer features a mini Digilink port for connection to HDX systems. For users of non-HDX Pro Tools systems and users of other Eucom enabled DAWs such as Nuendo, Cubase and Pyramix the Eucon monitor control features are powerful and flexible. users of DAWs other than Pro Tools obviously won’t be using the Pro Tools Control App but monitor control, particularly via the MOM remote control is available.

What Is The Pro Mon Monitor Licence?

An AX32 is unusual in that it is one of a small list of third party hardware which operates over Eucon. Wheras a MTRX includes Pro Mon by default, it is an option with the AX32. If an AX32 has mic/line AD cards installed then these can be controlled over Eucon but a Pro Mon licence is needed to enable the monitor section mapping.

What is the DAD MOM?

The amusingly named MOM from DAD is a Monitor Operating Module which gives comprehensive customisable monitor control of the AX32 and MTRX over Eucon. It’s a beautifully built box with a single endless encoder with 10 programmable buttons which can be set up to do pretty much everything. Frozen Fish Designs offer a custom MOM mount option so it can be incorporated into an S6, as pictured above. Below is a video of from BVE 2018 with Jan Lykke from DAD explaining everything a MOM can do.

Eucon Monitor control is powerful and flexible and with the new control options is it most definitely something which can be brought under your fingertips if you are lucky enough to have a suitable hardware.
