How To Fix Sounds Using EQ In Pro Tools In Less Than A Minute

In a new format we are producing videos offering tips and solutions to common problems in under a minute. In this free video tutorial we show you how easy it is to fix issues in sounds using EQ in Pro Tools.

Why Not Use A Spectrum Analyser?

Spectrum Analysers can be really useful but it’s always better to use your ears to find sounds. Some sounds just don’t shows themselves very prominently on an analyser although you can hear them clearly.

Doing It By Ear

Using either the EQ III or the Avid Channel Strip you can temporarily solo a band of EQ by holding Control and Shift, or Start and Shift on a PC and moving the control point. In EQ III this also works if you grab the Frequency or Q knob. This puts the EQ into Band Pass mode which means you can hear just the frequencies affected by that band of EQ.

Why Not Use A Narrow Boost Instead?

You can, it will still work but apart from Band Pass mode being momentary, to get the same amount of separation between the frequencies you are interested in and the rest you will probably need to boost so much that the plugin will clip and distort.
