In this week's Friday Free Plug-in, we are featuring Royal Compressor from United Plugins, an interesting take on what should happen when the demo period of a plug-in expires. Rather than losing your compressor, some of its knobs fall off but it still works indefinitely.

What Is Royal Compressor?

Royal Compressor is a model of a “classic British device” and is clearly based on an RS124, the famous Abbey Road Beatles compressors. It’s a lovely thing and the smooth vari mu compression has bags of character. Royal Compressor is a paid for plug-in and is available with a 15 day fully functioning demo.

What Is Royal Compressor 2nd Hand Edition?

When the 15 day demo of Royal Compressor expires, rather than ceasing to work like most expired demos, some of the knobs fall off or cease to work and you are left with a partly functioning compressor which can be used indefinitely. This is the 2nd Hand Edition.

The controls which cease functioning are the auto makeup gain, which is disabled, the recovery time is fixed and the different models become unavailable.

Go to the United Plugins Website and download the appropriate installer.
