In this free video tutorial, brought to you with the support of Plugin Alliance, Pro Tools Expert team member Julian Rodgers uses the bit monitor in Hawkeye to demonstrate how bit depth changes through the Pro Tools mixer.

Bit Depth In Pro Tools?

In this example Julian uses three versions of the same drum loop at 16, 24 and 32 bit float and demonstrates how a 16 bit file occupies 32 bits through the 64 bit Pro Tools mixer and how a master fader can be used to move those 32 bits up and down through the 64 bits available in the mixer. The addition of plugin processing on a 16 or 24 bit file changes it to 32 bits. All inaudible changes which are easy to understand if you use a bit monitor.
