Name The Pro Tools Bug You Still Experience Frequently In Your Recording Studio

Over the years, Pro Tools has had a bit of a reputation for being buggy. We don't deny that there are bugs in Pro Tools, you only have to look at the reports in the bugs section of the Pro Tools IdeaScale and the list of known issues in the Pro Tools release notes. But is the claim, often made after an update, that Pro Tools is full of bugs really justified? What one Pro Tools bug is causing you real problems?

Is It Really A Pro Tools Bug?

The bugs we see are not always as a result of a problem in the Pro Tools code. In some cases new computer operating systems can be to blame for certain Pro Tools issues, for example, macOS 10.13.4 is not approved for Pro Tools as Avid has found serious problems with CPU performance. Although Avid is working to find a resolution for this they are recommending that users don't update to 10.13.4 until further notice.

Third Party Plug-ins

Other times third-party plug-ins can cause a number of Pro Tools problems. This is a classic problem especially after a Pro Tools upgrade as older plug-ins don't always play nicely with later versions of Pro Tools and the presence of an incompatible plug-in in your plug-ins folder is enough to cause problems with Pro Tools, it doesn't even need to be in use in the session.

Pro Tools Always To Blame?

There are of course times Pro Tools is to blame and has exhibited a variety of irritating bugs, there's no getting around that fact.

However we suspect that a lot of Pro Tools related bug complaints posted on social media and forums are not the result of bad code, but because users are not using supported computers, operating systems and hardware, or a bad install, or as a result of updates on top of updates and so on...

More Updates Offering Quicker Fixes

As part of the increase in the frequency of updates, Avid are prioritising bug fixes in Pro Tools updates, which is a good thing. We want Pro Tools to be a DAW that's rock solid and trustworthy. Even though Avid is making great efforts to fix Pro Tools bugs we at Pro Tools Expert believe that there are still some bugs plaguing peoples Pro Tools systems.

Have you been able to verify that it is a bug with Pro Tools, by getting at least one other user to be able to repeat the bug on their own system and not an issue that is unique to your system?

Please only share what you believe to be valid Pro Tools specific and reproducible bug running on a computer fully qualified to run Pro Tools.
