Sounds In Sync Offer Support For iLok Network Licenses

Avid announced that they plan to offer iLok Network license support back in January 2018 with the release of Pro Tools 2018, but Sounds In Sync have gone one stage further and are now actually offering iLok Network Licenses for all their own products.

Sounds in Sync has announced that all of their iLok enabled applications can now be licensed using what they describe as 'iLok Sharable Licenses'. This allows their applications to be authorised from a license server on a local network, eliminating the need to have a physical iLok dongle connected to every computer running one of their applications.

iLok Network licensing is ideal for universities, schools and large facilities, providing a way of purchasing a single shareable license that contains two or more "seats". This license is stored on a physical iLok connected to the license server computer, which can be placed in a secure room. Configured by the iLok License Manager application, the server then shares the seats of the sharable license to client computers on the local network when an application is run.

The license server can be configured to share the licenses with anyone on the local network (public) or restricted by invitation only (private). To have one of Sounds In Sync's applications use a shareable license, they recommend simply running it without an iLok license attached. Then when it doesn’t find a license it will offer the option to look for a shareable license on the local network.

An iLok license server on the left-hand side with a single iLok attached activating 4 copies (seats) of an application over a local network using a shareable license that can activate up to 25 seats.

Sharable licenses are ideal for classrooms or large businesses where it is preferable to store valuable software licenses in a secure central server room, thereby eliminating the exposure of having multiple iLok dongles attached to computers in classrooms or multiple edit/mix rooms, which can be more easily lost or stolen. Shareable licenses also allow for licenses to be easily shared between systems as demand varies in the facility.

For more information about iLoks and iLok licenses see Sound In Sync's iLok information page. Shareable Licenses can be purchased from their web store.

Sounds In Sync shareable licenses are supported by the following application versions:

  • EdiCue v2.8.0+
  • EdiPrompt v2.3.0+
  • EdiLoad v3.4.1+
  • EdiChart v3.1.0+

What iLok Say About Network Licensing

Software publishers now have the ability to provide users with a special type of license that may be shared across your local network. You can use the iLok License Manager to configure a networked computer to act as a server and share these licenses to other computers on your network. Creating connections from the server to the license users is simple thanks to the use of Zero Configuration standards. There are varying levels of privacy supported so that you can make your network private or public. Network licenses are ideal for classrooms and large businesses that require a robust license sharing system.

Only special network licenses with more than one seat assigned can be shared on a network. Please ask the software publisher for additional details.
