Foley Collection Release Real Outdoor Footsteps Expansion Pack

During last summer the team at Foley Collection spent 4 weeks travelling with recording equipment through the Swiss Alps and the Spanish Sierra Nevada. We knew that Foley outdoor recordings would be a challenge and often they were surprised by bad weather conditions, but in the end, they can now present you with a unique collection of excellent recordings.

Why have outdoor foley recordings? Even if you use a super-cardioid capsule, some transients may take up too much room. Also, the surfaces are not always 100% grass or dirt. Often you need something in between. That's what you get with Real Outdoor Footsteps.

Foley Collection have three groups of users. Customers with the Edward Ultimate SUITE, customers with the Edward Foleyart Instrument and users of the Foleyart Collection who work with meta-tagged WAV files. They have chosen to support all 3 groups to give all the opportunity to extend their repertoire with the Real Outdoor Footsteps  Owners of the Black Box, who bought it in 2018, will receive free access to Real Outdoor Footsteps.

Sweden Ambiences - This is their home, the sounds from the country they live in. Hear the cold winter winds from the hills of Gothenburg, the city life of the student town of Uppsala and the untouched nature far from the highways and industries from the whole year. They have collected the nature, cities, parks and rivers in a compact package. A library like this wouldn’t be complete without wallas where you can hear the Swedish language, in a café, shopping mall and train station. This comes down to over 220 minutes in 7,7 Gb. Everything is recorded on a Sound Devices 633 with Neumann KM184 and Sennheiser MKH50 in Stereo (96 kHz, 24 Bit).

Undertone Release 3 New Libraries - City Construction, Airports, Zumbro Field and Stream and Cathedral & Concert Hall Audiences

City Construction - Apparently there’s a joke that there are only two seasons in the Midwest – winter and road construction.  So it was only fitting that the city of Minneapolis started tearing up the street outside the Undertone studios last summer.  We decided to make the best of a bad situation and record the construction site cacophony.  This library has the clatter of flatbed trucks, chugging diesel engines, creaking earth movers, shovels digging through rubble, drilling, hammering, and of course plenty of vehicles beeping as they back up. While there is a lot of great detail here with some very specific movements documented and we’ve used specific things to great effect, this is really more of an ambient library.

Airports - As dedicated documentarians and re-presenters of their world, the team at Undertone often take their portable recorders with them when they travel. While they don’t like to fly, they love to record and listen to their recordings and then share them with their customers. Airports has sounds from 3 airports - Chicago O’Hare, Amsterdam Schiphol and Vienna International. They also documented the trip along the way onboard their aeroplane. In fact, they have been a little underwhelmed by most commercial recordings of aeroplanes in flight and use their own recordings instead!

Zumbro Field and Stream - Nothing quite compares to the solitude of nature – sitting alone on the banks of a calm river while the water gurgles past, birds call to each other in the woods, and wind whispers through the leaves.  The team from Undertone grabbed a few assorted recordings on a short day trip to the woodlands of Southeast Minnesota.  This pack contains some riverside ambience with plenty of birdcalls, a recording made in a prairie nearby the woods with dragonflies buzzing past, and while on the way back to civilization they even picked up some chickens clucking from a nearby farm.

Cathedral & Concert Hall Audiences - They have pulled some useful sounds from a concert at a Cathedral with 2500 people in attendance as well sounds from 3 orchestra performances at a concert hall with 2000 people in attendance (in each) — the gathering crowd milling about, talking, laughing and filing in and out. Then they lifted all the varying applauses small and large including the final big burst of applause.

But the rare gold, we feel, is in the “in-between”. Before the music starts there are moments of quiet, of shuffling in the seats, music stand hits, instrument shifts, the isolated cough, etc. All these subtle nuances of audience and performer movements have been captured.  These can be used for church scenes, concert scenes, or any room tone for a scene in a large reverberant space where some minimal movement is needed.

Undertone has expanded this collection.
