Avid Pro Tools 2018.1 Complete Bug Fix List

As with every new version of Pro Tools, everyone is concerned with which bugs have been fixed and Pro Tools 2018.1 is no exception. Here is the complete list...

Editing

  • Fixed a set of Access Violation issues that could occur when editing clips on Windows 
  • Fixed an issue that could cause "ghost" transients from appearing in clips after editing muted clips in "overlapped crossfades" waveform view 
  • Deleting selections of clips that do not include the clip's Sync Point no longer cause the Sync Point to be deleted
  • Fixed an issue that could cause trimming clips in an Edit Group from behaving as expected after deactivating and reactivating groups 
  • Fixed an unexpected resizing of fades that could occur when moving a partial clip selection with the grabber tool
  • Fixed an unexpected copying of partially selected clips if the selection also partially selects a fade
  • Fixed an assertion error that could occur when creating fades after selecting the empty space between two clips
  • Using the TCE Trim tool on a partially selected clip boundary no longer separates the clip unexpectedly

MIDI

  • MIDI and Instrument Tracks are now included in the behaviour of the "Latch Record Enable Buttons" preference when the preference is disabled 
  • It is no longer impossible to move note selection using the left and right arrow key after first Grabber selecting a note 
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent MIDI controller lanes from appearing as expected between the docked and undocked MIDI Editors 
  • The separation grabber no longer copies MIDI clip selections and now correctly cuts them instead 
  • MIDI Input transmitted through the IAC Bus no longer fails to register in the MIDI Input Display 
  • Fixed an issue with Sustain MIDI Merge modes that could prevent sustain on or off from being recorded according to the rules of each mode depending on the Sustain state when starting playback
  • The "transpose in key" Event Operation now forces notes that are not in key to the nearest scale step
  • MIDI Notes no longer fail to appear selected in some cases when using the "Color Code by Velocity" setting 
  • Fixed a UI issue that caused MIDI notes to disappear temporarily while trimming the parent clip's boundaries 

Elastic Audio

  • Fixed an issue that could cause silence in audio clips after rendered mode Elastic Audio processing 
  • Fixed an issue that could delay rendered Elastic Audio processing after performing a Range Warp 
  • Fixed a hang that could occur when manipulating a warp marker on a looped clip
  • Fixed an issue that prevented elastic edits from modifying copies of clips created by looping 
  • Fixed a case where Elastic Audio rendering could begin when clicking the mouse down on a warp marker instead of when releasing the mouse click to place a marker in a final location

Playlists

  • Playlists that are created to maintain playlist order sync across tracks in Edit Groups no longer contain duplicated audio, they are created as blank new playlists 
  • Clip colour is now maintained correctly when cycling playlists using the Shift Up and Down arrow keys in the case that the track had not been first put into playlists view at least once 
  • Undo of the Copy and Send and Clear and Send to Playlist commands no longer fails when not in playlist track view
  • Fixed an issue that could cause incorrect cycling order when changing playlists using the Shift + Up and Down arrow keys
  • Clips are no longer copied or moved to unexpected destinations when using the “Copy To..” and “Move to…” sub menus to work with playlists on Windows 
  • Changing playlists is once again forbidden on frozen tracks 
  • Switching to playlist view no longer requires clicking OK multiple times if the group warning dialog appears
  • Fixed several UI issues with playlists view and playlist UI elements 

Video

  • “Bounce to Quicktime” no longer intermittently creates .mov files that only contain audio 
  • Fixed an issue that could intermittently cause video from an offline video track to be displayed instead of video from the online video track 

Delay Compensation

  • Fixed some cases where automation could be written late when writing to tracks whose signal delayed by downstream plug-ins on Aux Inputs or Master Faders 
  • Fixed some cases where automation moves made on VCAs under certain mixer configurations played back later than how they were heard when recording
  • Fixed an issue that could cause Offline Bounce of a Master Fader track to be rendered a few samples early 
  • Fixed an issue that could cause inaccurate delay compensation calculations when activating and deactivating inserts 
  • Audio no longer plays ahead of time during the pre-roll time when recording or while tracks are record armed 

Automation

  • Panning from left to centre to right on a track routed to an LCR output once again fades smoothly between each channel
  • Fixed a case where automation breakpoints disappeared unexpectedly when writing automation on audio tracks controlled by a VCA 
  • Automation Lane views shown are no longer ignored for imported tracks when performing Import Session Data

Control Surfaces

  • Fixed an issue that prevented matching out from some automation prime modes 
  • Stereo tracks assigned to stereo outputs are no longer missing Link and Front controls on S6 
  • Fixed display and functionality issues with the Channel Strip dynamics sidechain filter type knob on S6 

Ambisonics Tracks and Busses

  • Renaming and then exporting Ambisonics format clips and files no longer creates Multi-mono files when Interleaved is enabled 
  • VCA Masters for groups of Ambisonics format tracks no longer have incorrect meters 
  • Auto-created Ambisonics busses no longer contain unexpected sub-paths
  • Fixed an access violation that could occur when routing many Ambisonics tracks 

Atmos Workflows

  • It is no longer impossible to import ADM BWAV files using Import Session Data if the file path contains non-English characters
  • Stereo Object panners are now linked and inverted by default like regular stereo panners
  • Committing a track with a Master Object Control mode no longer creates a track with no object assigned and a stuck object control mode setting
  • Changing the format of a bus with an object mapping from mono to stereo or vice versa no longer hides the previous object assignment 
  • Theater mode view rotation settings are now stored per track 

Workspace

  • Fixed an issue that could prevent all tags in a selected workspace location from appearing in the tags search pane 
  • The indexing progress indicator no longer fails to update again after cancelling an operation 
  • Fixed several UI artefacts that could appear in the workspace window 

Performance

  • Fixed a slow down that could occur when activating tracks starting playback 
  • Fixed an issue that could cause Pro Tools to slow down and start hanging over time
  • Network disconnection on Windows 10 no longer temporarily freezes the Pro Tools UI 

Plug-ins

  • Fixed a set of issues affecting Avid plug-ins that could cause AudioSuite preview to play in mono for stereo clips 
  • "Clip by clip" Audiosuite processing that causes time expansion no longer corrupts existing edits on the timeline
  • Fixed a case where audio would be interrupted briefly by clicking within a clip during Audiosuite preview
  • A warning is once again displayed when attempting to Audiosuite process a selection of a Frozen track, preventing a hang

Miscellaneous

  • The “Mute Record-Armed Tracks While Stopped” preference once again functions with all playback devices, having previously been broken for non-HDX systems 
  • Fixed an issue on macOS that could cause AIFF or MP3 import to fail when using Import Audio after performing a Spotlight search 
  • Fixed a relinking issue that could cause Pro Tools to link to the wrong audio file if it has the same name and path but a different unique ID 
  • Files previously exported by Export Selected Clips... command are no longer invisible in the export dialog when subsequently using the command 
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent Interplay Access from launching Pro Tools when an Import to Pro Tools command is issued 
  • Fixed an issue in the Big Counter that would cause Timecode position to be displayed before playback when using any other time scale such as Bars|Beats
  • Fixed an issue that could cause existing cloud-enabled Projects from appearing in the Dashboard 
  • 5.1 format Output Meters in the Edit Window header once again show 5 channels, having previously shown only 4 in some cases 
  • Fixed an issue that caused mono subpath suffixes from being renamed correctly when a surround bus is renamed from a track’s input or output path selector 
  • Fixed a set of UI issues that could cause white stripes or other UI artefacts to appear in the Pro Tools UI during or after completing various commands

Crashes and Errors

  • Pro Tools no longer crashes when opening the Mic Pre view on macOS 10.13 High Sierra 
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when deleting a track with playlists after undo and redo of certain commands 
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when zoom toggling into playlist view
  • Removing the downmixer plug-in from a track with any inserts following it no longer causes a crash
  • Fixed a crash that could occur during undo or redo of the Expand Channels command on a Field Recorder Guide Track
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when using the “Repeat” command on a clip group when Layered Editing is turned off
