Free Tutorial - Gain Scaling The bx_digital V3 EQ Using Linked Control Groups In Pro Tools

See this content in the original post

In this free video tutorial brought to you in with the support of Plugin Alliance, Pro Tools Expert team member Julian Rodgers demonstrates how easy it is to control the amount of EQ applied to multiple EQs across multiple tracks using the Gain Scale control on the Brainworx bx_digital V3 and setting custom group attributes in Pro Tools.

Gain Scaling

Gain scale is a control on the bx_digital V3 which allows the overall depth of an EQ curve to be adjusted from flat, through to a very exaggerated version of the original setting or ever the opposite of the original curve. It's a simple control, all it does is proportionally scale the gain settings of the individual bands of EQ up or down but it is so useful it's surprising more EQ plug-ins don't offer it.

A similar effect can be achieved by using parallel EQ but phase differences introduced by the filters in the EQ mean that parallel EQ tends to have a sound beyond the effect of the EQ curve. Gain scaling doesn't suffer from this effect.

Linked Controls Via Groups

By linking the controls of these plug-ins in the group attributes in Pro Tools, it is possible to control the depth of EQ across many EQs across your session as long as they all occupy the same insert slot.
