In this free video tutorial brought to you in with the support of Plugin Alliance, Pro Tools Expert team member Julian Rodgers demonstrates using SPL's Dual Band De-sser Plug-in. An extremely effective de-esser which is very simple to set up.

High and Low "Esses"

Using an example of a female vocal with an occasional troublesome high whistle as well as a regular "ess" Julian demonstrates how the dual band de-esser can address unwanted sounds in the typical 6-7kHz region and whistles over 10kHz.

Phase Cancellation

Unlike conventional de-essers which use frequency-conscious compression to suppress unwanted sounds, the SPL de-essers, both the single and dual band de-essers, use phase cancellation to control these unwanted sounds giving a transparent sound with minimal settings to address.
