Free Tutorial - Controlling Harshness On Violin Using Brainworx bx_refinement

See this content in the original post

In this free video tutorial brought to you in with the support of Plugin Alliance, Pro Tools Expert team member Julian Rodgers attempts to use bx_refinement to control harshness on a solo violin recording.

Damping Frequencies In The 3.5kHz Region

At its core bx_refinement is a cut-only bell filter centred on the upper midrange. The damping control dials in a fixed cut around 3.5kHz with a choice of two Q settings with hard being sharper than soft. The perceived loss of high end can be countered using the presence control which is a cut/boost high shelf and  additional harmonic content can be introduced using the saturation control.

Dynamic EQ

This upper mid band filter can be modulated by the Dynamics section, which is a band of dynamic EQ which can be tuned by soloing the output of the filter.
