Anyone who has ever used a hardware Empirical Labs Distressor will know just how useful these units are for drums or guitars.  The FG-Stress is a faithful digital recreation of one of the industry’s most highly cherished analogue compressors.

FG-Stress is the latest in a successful line of software recreations of classic hardware from the Slate Digital team.  The Distressor is one of the most commonly used dynamics processors for Drums and Guitars in modern music production due to its enormous range and flexibility. 

In the exclusive video review hear how Technical Editor James Ivey, uses the new FG-Stress on Drums, Bass, Electric Guitar and Mix Buss to take the basic tracked instruments and enhance and control them as only a Distressor can do.

Slate Digital tell us that the Distressor has been modelled in every detail which is not as simple as may at first sound due to the Distressor’s unique design meaning each different ratio is essentially a different compressor acting with its own tone and character. In much the same way as the hardware does, the new FG-Stress module can emulate the tone of those driving VCA compressors, vintage sounding optical comps and even the harmonic distortion found in valve models. 

FG-Stress has been over two years in creation and the Slate team think it will be worth the wait.
