I've been using this little-known feature on the stock Pro Tools EQ for years and despite referring to it a lot in the past, I've never done a video demonstrating it in use, and so in this free video tutorial I am going to explain and demonstrate this feature.

What Is Band Pass Mode?

Bandpass mode is a feature of the 7, 4 and 1 band versions of EQIII which allows you to solo the band you are currently adjusting. I use this in preference to the, very common, technique of creating a narrow boost and sweeping it, I've never taken to that technique as it increases the gain, and anyway big, narrow boosts make everything sound awful!

To use bandpass mode (I've no idea if that's what Avid call it but it's what I've called it for years) just hold Ctrl+Shift on a Mac (Start+Shift on a PC) and move the frequency or Q for the band you wish to solo.

A source of frustration for me has always been that using the Ctrl+Shift modifiers built into a D Control or D Command doesn't work, you have to use the keys on the keyboard. I've never tried it on an S6 - Does anyone in the community know if it works?
