In all honesty, we were quite sceptical about this technique but pleasantly surprised when the before and after comparisons were presented. Obviously, these DIY panels don't compare in broadband performance typical of professionally designed studio acoustics but for home studio guys on a budget that need cheap acoustic absorption solutions... this is definitely worth a punt.

Design Improvements

If we were to make these budget acoustic panels for a home recording studio we would make the frames deeper with thicker wood so that a thicker layer of towels could be used inside with a small 1-inch air gap between the packed towels and wall. An air gap would help increased low-frequency absorption.

For safety reason, we would also soak all the towels in a fire retardant spray before building the panels.
