I'm going to be terribly unfashionable and tell you why I still love my Apple Mac and why I'm sticking with Apple. 

Yes I know it's not the done thing to defend Apple right now, that I should berate them for not listening and for abandoning me, because after all as a creative if it weren't for me Apple wouldn't have a business, would they? I know I should be joining the people queuing around the block at the Microsoft Store to get their latest computer, but I haven't got a clue where to find one. Perhaps had they not disguised them to look like Apple Stores it would have made the job of finding one easier.

Maybe I've lost my mind, or never had one in the first place? I was one of the dumb f**ks who bought the hugely overpriced Mac Pro 'Trash-can' just because it has an Apple logo on it. Apparently, I should have been regretting my purchase since 2013, according to everyone who doesn't own one it has no redeeming features. But does me owning one of the last 15" Retina MacBook Pros (the good ones) redeem me? With Mac fanboys perhaps, but not with Windows users, they will still think I'm someone who only wants to buy a Mac to look special when I sit drinking coffee in Starbucks. Well, I went and screwed that plan up too because whenever I sit in Starbucks, everyone has a Macbook Pro, or a variant of said family... so dumb f**k it is then!

But I'm going to tell you why despite all my shortcomings and the apparent crappy Macs I invested in, why I'm sticking with my Apple Mac.

The Real Test Of My Apple Macs

My test of anything pro is how it performs on real jobs for real clients, in other words in the real world.

Every day I walk into my studio turn on my Mac Pro and work for sometimes 12 hours if it's a quiet day. There's never a day when I think to myself; I wish I owned a different computer or used a different OS. In years since I owned it, my 'overpriced' Mac Pro Late 2013 has paid for itself over 250 times; it is the rock that powers my business. In fact, it is such a rock that I rarely realise it is there; it just keeps doing the job, quietly humming on the shelf. The same can said of my MacBook Pro; it just keeps going. My MacBook Pro has been around the world more time than the average tourist; it should have its own TripAdvisor account. It's been from New York, Paris, London, Munich, everyone talk about... Sorry, I drifted off into a song, but what I was about to say is that it works every time I flip the lid open.

Now there are plenty of professionals talking about how they are still having to use their Mac Pro 'Cheese-grater', which I'm guessing is around five years old, if not older. That's not a reason to berate Apple, that's a reason to celebrate. You own a computer that is over five years old, and it's still helping you make money? If it's a business asset then you stopped depreciating it some time ago - it owes you nothing. Your Mac still running after all these years is not an argument against owning an Apple, that's an argument for buying them. It's the computer equivalent of a Volvo that has done 900,000 miles, and it still starts every morning.

There are many Mac owners across the globe still using computers that should have died years ago, but they haven't! OK so our older Macs are not going to win any p*ssing contests in forum arguments but that doesn't matter to me, I have friends and a sex life.

But What About Replacing My Mac?

Which brings me to the point, what if I were to want to replace my Mac Pro today? Well, I don't, and if it lasts like most Macs, then I won't be making that decision until 2019 at the soonest, by which time it will owe me nothing. If anything I need to thank Apple as the current round of Mac models won't tempt this die-hard Mac fanboy to want to spend money and when it comes to business profit is what you don't spend.

If you are at the point of needing to upgrade your ageing Mac, then I do feel some of your pain, but I would caution you against joining the chorus of 'Apple have let us down!' If your Mac has been running for over five years, then they've done anything but let you down. It owes you nothing, on paper and in principle.

You see in the world of forums, of reviews, of comments, of bloggers (sh*t at least two of those cover me!) then the script is that my Apple Macs are junk and Apple have done nothing to make better ones. Apple has left me for dead and put silly track strips in place of the top row of keys I hardly ever used! Apple doesn't listen to me anymore, in fact, it's so bad I should be breaking out into a rendition of "You Don't Bring Me Flowers." Apparently Apple abandoned me for all those iPhone users, for people who use iPads, Apple just want to sell apps.

The problem is I am one of the iPhone users, I do own an iPad and love using their Apps - my new car has CarPlay, and I love it.

So Apple has been cheating on me... but with me - sneaky bastards! They do bring me flowers, in fact, they bring me more flowers than they used too.

I Hope You Are Happy Too

Now you might be thinking that your Windows computer does the same. It probably does, and it's probably faster and cheaper. That is great; I'm happy for you, and if you tell me the day you first got it then I'll send you an anniversary card. The thing is I'm not telling you how crap it is, how insane you are for buying it, or that you should sell it and never darken the door of a Microsoft Store again, that is if you can find one. If it works for you then you sound as happy as me, so I'll get on with my job and let you get on with yours. I'll mind my own business.

Why I'm Sticking With My Apple Macs

Of course, you've probably realised by now there is a somewhat satirical tone to this article. However, that doesn't change the core point (no pun intended) that I'm making. You see in the real world the Macs I use deliver; they continue to power my business and help me make money. They continue to help me serve my clients and in doing so generate a decent living. Even better they last long enough to mean I don't have to keep buying a new one every 24 months.

I'm not writing this to convince you to ditch Microsoft and start buying Apple or if you already do own Apple to buy a new Mac.

I'm writing this to say that if you want me to join the group turning against Apple, then I won't. In the real world, Apple hasn't let me down, quite the opposite in fact.
