10 years ago this year Russ Hughes started the AIR Users blog, which morphed into Pro Tools Expert in 2012. To celebrate our 10-year anniversary we ran a competition with a Pro Audio gear and software prize pot worth over $28,000. One of the prizes was a bundle from our friends at Sonible.

Smart:EQ is a latency-free live plug-in that features a high-precision adaptive filter that analyzes audio signals then quickly interprets them musically and compensates spectral imbalances in real-time. Smart:EQ live is a very transparent sounding EQ and works quickly to shape audio musically in seconds.

How Does smart:EQ live work?

Bandwidth, responsiveness and the weighting of the autonomous calculated filter curve can be precisely defined. The Threshold and the Limit Line of the smart-band primes the algorithm for the essential signal components. Custom-made profiles are designed to add even more flexibility by optimising the smart algorithm for different source signals. The profiles tell the A.I. what kind of instrument or voice it deals with. Similar to a preset, the user can edit and save profiles individually.

I’m a Glasgow based sound editor for TV currently working more broadly in post production at BBC Scotland.

I’m in the midst of building up my home setup, running Pro Tools 12 on my MacBook Pro. The aim is to be able to continue working on short films and web series from the comfort of home, when I am not working on active TV productions.

The Sonible EQ + will help me immensely in my work. I am just starting to build my own home setup and need software that’s intuitive and gives quality results. Whether that’s for sound design or dialogue editing. This will be an essential part of my workflow.
