After the rumours of when Apple would release the new iMac Pro, especially as 207 is running out, Apple has announced the release of the long-awaited iMac Pro on December 14th 2017.

Apple has given one or 2 people machines to play with ahead of the release, including YouTube personality Marques Brownlee was given the iMac Pro for a week ahead of the launch. Watch this video and learn about his thoughts on the system.

What Do We Learn From This Video

The 8 core and 10 core will be available from Thursday but the 18 core won't be shipping until early next year.

The processor chips are the Intel Xeon W chips, which use an LGA2066 socket and Skylake-SP architecture, come in 8, 10, and 18 core configurations with Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz, 48 PCI Express 3.0 lanes, and support for up to 512GB of DDR4–2666 ECC memory. So the rumours suggesting that the iMac Pro could feature these server grade chips with an ARM co-processor have come to nothing.

The rumour suggesting that because the iMac Pro having only four memory modules that Apple will use the desktop LGA2066 socket in the iMac Pro, has proved correct. The the new Xeon W family has been designed help fill the gap in Intel’s processors between server and consumer use replacing the E5-1600 series that Apple has used in its Mac Pro and use Intel’s Skylake architecture.

There are no user changeable parts with the iMac Pro. What you buy is what you get. The unit is completely sealed so there will be no opportunity to upgrade RAM, Hard drive, anything, so you will need to bear that in mind when buying your iMac Pro.
