In this free video tutorial, Pro Tools Expert Team Member Julian Rodgers demonstrates a handy keystroke combination to help with moving all the material beyond an edit point in a session while keeping relative sync between tracks.

No Need For The All Group

This tip is useful when editing dialogue or similar non-musical material. Particularly if a section needs to be removed or a small amount of space needs to be created the many available techniques such as using the All Group option or creating or deleting time from the timeline using Event - Time Operations are all a bit laborious for what might be many edits in a session. If the material later in the session needs its relative sync to be maintained then this keystroke combination might be just what you need.

Option + Shift

• First, select the clip from which you want to move the later clips using the Grab tool while holding Option and Shift (Alt and shift on the PC). - This creates an edit selection the same length as the selected clip but across every track in the session.
• Next, without releasing Option and Shift, hit return (not enter). - This extends the out point of the edit selection to the tail of the last clip in the session. You now have all the clips you want to move selected.
• Next, release Option and Shift and move the selected clips. - If you don't release Option and Shift you will create copies of the clips you are moving and if you are closing a gap because you are removing material and you are zoomed in you probably won't find all the copies you are leaving poking out at the end of your session until you get to the end!
