Tip - Essential Pro Tools Edit Window Keyboard Shortcuts For Editing Audio Clips

Recently I shared my Essential Pro Tools Mixer Window Keyboard Shortcuts that I use in my everyday workflow to mix large Pro Tools Sessions. In this article I ⌘E from the Mix Window into the Pro Tools Edit Window to share a handful of keyboard shortcuts that I rely on heavily when I edit audio clips in Pro Tools.

For convenience, we've presented all these shortcuts in Mac format. Windows users can use the following modifier key substitutions:

Navigation & Display

  • Bring Pro Tools Edit Window To Front: cmd E

  • Timeline & Waveform Zoom:  - alt mouse wheel

  • Tab to Transient (ensure Tab To Transients is enabled): Tab

  • Show Markers Window: cmd 5 (numeric keypad)

  • Drop Markers On The Fly: fn return

Audio Editing

  • Duplicate Clip: cmd D

  • Mute Clip: cmd M

  • Separate Clip: cmd E

  • Create Fades: cmd F

  • Quantize Highlighted Clip To Grid: cmd 0

  • Undo: cmd Z

  • Redo: shift cmd Z

  • Insert Silence: shift cmd E

  • Save Session: cmd S

  • Strip Silence: cmd U

  • Commit Track: alt shift C

Transport

  • Play/Stop: spacebar

  • Record: cmd spacebar

  • Return To Start Of Session RTZ: Return
