Bongo Ties

This is a great find courtesy of Alvin Burrell. Bongo Ties. He says... 

These are strong rubber bands with plastic ties that you secure things with - really useful and quicker than velcro and not permanent like tape. After buying a pack of 10 and using them everywhere. Really useful for holding groups of cables together or temporary fixing against mic stands, table legs etc...and less that £10 of a pack of 10.

Learn How To Solder

This was featured on the Studio Hacks Facebook page and we agree that it is important to know how to solder well. In this video James shows you how to solder up and XLR.  He shows you how to strip the cable. How to divide the screen and tin all the ends ready for soldering to the XLR plug. He then shows you how to get perfect connections not dry joints.  Soldering is not an art form but it is a skill that will save you serious cash. No longer will you be buying ready made cables. You will be making your own custom cables that will last longer than those you buy.  Cabling is one area of your studio install that you should not skimp on so learn to solder and save £££ or $$$.

Emergency Counterweight For Mic Stands

Have you ever had a problem with a boom mic stand toppling over because the mics are too heavy? If so you can use a range of counter balance 'weights' to resolve the problem using a rucksack with a selection of books in it. Chuck Huber shared that "Tidy-Cat works in a pinch too", and Dietrich Pfeifer says "I put ankle weights purchased at the local sporting goods store around the bases of my stands. Helps a lot".
