Update - Official Details About The Pro Tools | MTRX

Our friends at AVID have today officially introduced the Pro Tools | MTRX at AES. The Pro Tools | MTRX gives Pro Tools users the superior DAD sonic quality along with incredibly flexible monitoring, I/O and routing capabilities all in one powerful unit for Pro Tools HDX and HD Native platforms.

The Pro Tools MTRX also integrates seamlessly with Pro Tools S6 and Pro Tools S3 control surfaces.

Main Workflow Features

• Gain extended monitor control and flexible routing with Pro Tools | S6, S3, and other EUCON surfaces

• Use the converter as a high-performance 64-channel Pro Tools | HD interfaceConnect and route their entire studio through AES3, MADI, Dante, and/or SDI I/O (MADI, Dante and SDI I/O option cards sold separately)

• Add high-quality mic preamps as an option and remotely control them from Pro Tools

• Customize Pro Tools | MTRX to their needs through eight available 8-channel card slots

• Keep everything in sync through Word Clock, AES11, Video, and all digital I/O

• Get automatic sample rate conversion on AES inputs

Initial Article

Following on from our article on whether Avid Are Leaving The Interface Market, a new Avid HD interface has been spotted at AES 2016.  It is the Pro Tools MTRX and is a rebadged Avid version of a DAD 32 interface.

We understand that the Pro Tools MTRX is a new 'Avid' interface being added to the Avid HD I/O Series. It is based on the DAD 32 interfaces and importantly will be a fully supported Avid I/O. So it seems that Avid have extended the Apogee Duet and Quartet experiment to 'produce' an HD interface.

We also understand that as part of the arrangement between DAD and Avid, that DAD will cease using DigiLink on any of their interfaces.

The Pro Tools MTRX can also be used for an extended monitor facility for the Avid S6 and the S3 as well as other Eucon surfaces, using the DADman software and the ProMon license which makes even more sense of the Advanced Monitor Control feature added to the DADman software.

Like its DAD 32 'brothers', we understand the Pro Tools MTRX supports AES, MADI, Dante, and analog I/O.
