Great news for all users of the Slate Digital Virtual Mix Rack (VMR). Slate have announced and are shipping 4 new modules for VRM. The great thing about this new range of virtual mix racks is they help those wanting to create plugin preset chains in Pro Tools without having to use the Pro Tools preset hack.

EIOSIS MODULES FOR SLATE VMR

Firstly there are 2 new EQ modules by Eiosis created by Slate Digital co-founder and chief designer  Fabrice Gabriel.  The first is a VMR recreation of the AirEQ AIR section allowing you to add sparkle, clarity and shine to the top end of your tracks or mixes.  The second unit takes the Earth, again from the Eiosis AirEQ.  Earth allows you to add controlled bottom end to your tracks or mixes. Both modules have variable slope filters to aid you in sculpting EQ curves. 

The great news here is that if you are a VMR users and you have an iLok license for the Eiosis AirEQ you can download the 2 new modules for FREE from Eiosis. 

Along with EQ Slate have created 2 new compressors based on the famous Rev A (Blue)  Fet compressors. The  FG0116 Vintage and Modern units are faithful recreations with some added bonus features.

FG-116 BLUE FET VINTAGE COMPRESSOR

FG-116 Blue Vintage recreates the sound of two “rev A” FET compressors. Both compressors sound rich, colorful, and musical. Circuit 1 has the classic ‘mid forward’ character that has made the blue striped FET compressors so famous. It adds a wonderful coloration to the upper mids especially, and adds a warm presence to vocals, bass, drums, and guitars.  Circuit 2 is modeled after a “rev A” unit that had been updated and refurbished, and had a very unique and musical sound.  Both Circuits have a Hi Pass Detective Filter that allows the lows to pass through uncompressed, which can sound really musical on a drum buss. Finally, the Mix/Knob allows you to parallel compress right inside the module, which is an ideal way to use this type of compression.

FG-116 BLUE FET MODERN COMPRESSOR

FG-116 Blue Modern is a custom revision of the classic FET compressor that offers two unique circuits that blend the old school tone with new school topology. The output transformers have been cleaned up so that it will have no output saturation, and the attack has been decoupled from the release so that it can be set much slower than the hardware for more transient articulation.  Circuit 1 is somewhat similar to the Vintage in that it will have a bit of a forward sounding character, but it is much cleaner and more pristine.  Circuit 2 will have a more breathable and punchy low end and overall smoother response on the top end. It sounds amazing on drum buss with the Hi Pass filter engaged, and even full mixes can really benefit from this musical compressor!
