A-Z Of Waves - D Is For DiGiGrid

DiGiGrid is a collaboration between Waves and DiGiCo/Soundtracs that aims to provide the audio market with processing and networking solutions based on the Waves SoundGrid platform. DiGiGrid offers audio interfaces for native DAWs, Pro Tools systems, Waves MultiRack and MADI-enabled consoles.

Waves have produced a short video showing four of the major DAWs Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic and Ableton Live working together using their Waves DiGiGrid IOS audio interface.

The video shows two musicians playing VIs via Cubase and Logic, the performance being mixed via Ableton Live and then recorded in Pro Tools.

NAMM 2016 - New Waves DiGiGrid Interfaces And I/O

In this video from NAMM 2016 James talks to Dan from DiGiDrid about the new "Cube" interfaces and I/O for the DigiGrid network. They talk about what options there are. How they act in a DAW workflow and how they connect into other audio over IP networks. Could this be connectivity solved?

About Waves Digigrid iOS

IOS is a solution for Native DAW users (Logic, Cubase, Nuendo, Ableton, Pro Tools Native, etc.), and is ideal for both professional and personal production studios.

DiGiGrid IOS comes with the complete SoundGrid Studio System software (the SoundGrid Studio Application, StudioRack, and the eMotion ST mixer). Used in combination with this software, the IOS lets you mix and monitor in real time using hundreds of your favorite SoundGrid-compatible Waves and third-party plugins, with super-low latency of only 0.8 milliseconds.

The DiGiGrid IOS consists of two parts, the DiGiGridIOS hardware and the Waves SoundGrid Studio software. The hardware is 8 x 8 audio interface and SoundGrid DSP server in a single 2U rack unit. Reconnection to the computer is via a Cat 5e/Cat 6 Ethernet cable.

Need more I/Os? A single Cat 5e or Cat 6 Ethernet cable is all you need to connect additional SoundGrid components to your network via the built-in network switch.

Waves DiGiGrid iOS Summary

Russ reviewed the Waves DiGiGrid iOS a while back...

Whilst there's been a lot of talk about the technology behind the Waves DiGiGrid IOS platform this may have overshadowed an equally important discussion which is the sound. The sound is very good, in fact so good it left me a little shocked, I plugged in a Shure SM7 and then my headphones on one of the two headphone sockets and was simply blown away by the sound. On talking to the team at DiGiGrid it transpires that both the input stages and the headphone stages come from the Digico SD7 console, I'm not sure how much is being made of this right now, but if you are choosing some new I/O then find a dealer that has the units in stock and then simply listen to the units.

Setting Up Waves DiGiGrid DLS With Pro Tools HD And HDX

Russ got his hands on the Waves DiGiGrid DLS and shows how it is set up with a Pro Tools HDX/HD system. Our system is a single HDX1 card with an Avid Omni, our card is sitting inside the Sonnet Thunderbolt Chassis.

For the Waves DiGiGrid DLS hardware to work it needs three connections - a network connection to the host computer, in this case a Mac Pro.

NAMM 2015: Waves DiGiGrid iOX and iOC Preview

James from Pro Tools Expert meets up with Michael (MPA) Adams and talks about Waves DiGiGrid iOX and iOC audio interfaces. With 12 mic/line inputs and 6 line/4 headphone outputs, DiGiGrid IOX is the perfect high-count I/O interface for your studio's performance/recording room. This all-round audio interface features 34 analog and digital ins/outs.

DiGiGrid IOX

DiGiGrid IOX is a high-count I/O interface for your studio’s performance/recording room. This audio interface features 12 mic/line inputs with broadcast/studio-quality preamps and 6 line outputs. The IOX delivers high-resolution monitoring in the studio and the control room alike, with four headphone outputs allowing independent mixes for each musician. With your IOX and a dedicated SoundGrid DSP server, you can run hundreds of SoundGrid-compatible Waves and third-party plug-ins, all fully integrated within your DAW of choice.

DiGiGrid IOC

Designed for the control room, the DiGiGrid IOC audio interface offers a range of connectivity options, including 2 mic/line inputs with broadcast-grade preamps, 8 line inputs/outputs, and 16 AES and ADAT inputs/outputs, plus two powerful headphone outputs.

With the IOC and a dedicated SoundGrid DSP server on your network, you will be able to run hundreds of SoundGrid-compatible Waves and third-party plug-ins, all fully integrated within your DAW of choice. Just plug the IOC into your SoundGrid network using a single Ethernet cable, and you will enter a new world of real-time tracking, mixing and monitoring, with extremely low latency of only 0.8 milliseconds.
