It is with great personal sadness that I write of the passing of BAFTA Award Winning Post Production Sound Legend Tony Anscombe, at the age of 75.

Tony formed CineLingual Sound Studios on Berwick St, London, in 1969 with Matt McCarthy and Eddie Quainton.

They swiftly became pioneers of ADR, dubbing and reversioning, and employed many industry legends, including Aad Wirtz, Tim Cavagin, Paul Hamblin, Mike Dowson, David Old, Andy Nelson and Colin Martin.

Tony was always able to grasp new technology, but could always be relied on to let you know how the old tech could do it better when it played up. In previous years Tony was one of the first mixers to use "rock'n'roll" - the ability to rewind a mix and punch in. It's down to him that I know that the term "interlock" comes from the metal rods that physically locked multiple films bays in sync.

I have fond memories of an all night mix with him, syncing AMS AudioFile, Sony DASH Multitrack, Tascam DA88s, Betacam and 35mm Film & Magnetic using an AudioKinetics Es1-11 synchroniser. It was a precarious rig at the best of times but he took it in his stride. We took turns sleeping and mixing.

After CineLingual ceased, Tony continued to inspire generations of engineers and editors at Magmasters, retiring shortly after they were taken over.

He was also a keen motorcyclist, leading to all manner of adventures around the world. You knew he'd arrived at work by the deep throb of his trusty BMW booming through the doors of reception.

Tony had a lot of health issues in life, so the fact that we had him for so long is a blessing. It was a highlight of the festive season to meet up with Tony for a pint or six. Another legend of Soho gone.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends. He will be missed.
