Using Clip Groups To Mark Up ADR in Pro Tools Without Specialist Software

Following on from Julian's excellent Clip Group article, I thought I'd share my application of this unexpectedly powerful feature of Pro Tools.

I use them for marking up ADR within a Pro Tools session, which can then reasonably automatically convert to PDF ADR sheets, suitable for printing or importing into video cueing streamers or systems with MIDI triggers.

Here's how I do it -

There are three great things about using this method -

  1. You can convert these clip groups in to MIDI events to trigger cueing devices
  2. You can export the Pro Tools Session and send it to the ADR stage as a virtual cue sheet
  3. If you use re-conform software such as Conformalizer from The Cargo Cult, any recuts that are made to the session also apply to your marked up ADR, making sending updated ADR sheets far easier and less time consuming.

I've found this technique invaluable when trying to keep up with recuts.
