Community member Pablo Lach from Mexico City reached out to us with a tip he wanted to share with the community about changing the output options on a video track in Pro Tools 11 and above. Over to you Pablo...

If you work with an external video hardware on Pro Tools 11 or Pro Tools 12 you con control your output resolution of the video track by holding down Command+Control by while you click on the output tab of a video track. It can show you a list of available resolutions that you can enable from within Pro Tools. It means that, for example, you can lower the resolution in your video monitor from HD 1080 to 720 in real time. Sometimes you want to monitor in different resolutions and now you can cheat the card and adapt the resolution for your workflow needs.

My wife works as an video editor. About a year ago I installed a MOTU HDX video card for a second rig with Apples's Final Cut and Avid's Media Composer. Then the other day I installed a Pro Tools HD 11 on that machine so I could work on something of my own. Surprise, surprise, the MOTU HDX worked as an audio interface (AES & analog I/O) and at the same time, as a video hardware output device (HDMI, SDI, HDMI even tri-level sync) all at the same time within Pro Tools. Has anybody came with this idea before? An audio and video interface in the same box. For post work is a great way to have it all in one box. I am still trying to see how stable is but for now it works fine.

Pablo, you are not alone on discovering the MOTU HDX unit (which has no connection with Pro Tools HDX)! Pro Tools Expert team member Alan Sallabank has been exploring this unit. However what Alan has found is that although MOTU have released drivers for Windows 7 and 8 that also seem to work fine on Windows 10, there aren't any Mac OS X El Capitan drivers. The Apple MOTU video drivers support stops at OS 10.9. So no Yosemite and El Capitan support. We hope to have more on the MOTU HDX interface soon.
