Pro Tools Software Updates - How Often Would You Like To Get Them? Poll

I may be in the minority but I have little issue with subscribing to some software, mostly influenced by my experience of the Adobe Cloud which I use for Photoshop for my business. It costs me $9.99 per month (about £7) and I've never had an issue with it. I always have the latest version and I'm not haunted by the 'but what if you stop paying and you can't open files any more' scenario. I don't say this to dismiss it as a genuine concern, I'm simply saying that it is not one that keeps me awake at night.

Best of all the promised updates are frequent, they are easy to install and consist of both application improvements and bug fixes.

These updates are small but they enable Adobe to drip-feed out bug fixes as soon as they are ready rather than in one big update release every few months.

Adobe are not alone, owners of Macs and I'm sure Windows will be used to getting notifications about updates on a regular basis, some of which you can choose to ignore if they are not relevant to you.

This of course also means that as updates are released the information about what is contained in them is clearly stated in the update app and not buried in a set of release notes on a server somewhere. I'm not sure how helpful "a ton of stability improvements" is when I'm determining if I press the 'UPDATE' button on an app.

Apple offer an option to install updates in the background which I'm not a fan of, I like to know what is getting updated and like to have the choice to let it happen or not. Their track record has not always been great when they update apps, Quicktime is one such app that has been broken at times by Apple's 'improvements' and 'fixes'.

The Avid Application Manager seems to offer an Adobe type update experience although I'm not sure if the updates are as often and administered in the same way or just a new way of delivering a large payload 'CS' style.

Some Pro Tools users are wondering have often they should expect to see updates for Pro Tools and in the new model of subscriptions and paid support plans thats a fair question to ask.

So Pro Tools software updates - how often would you like to get them? As one large payload of updates and bug fixes a few times a year or smaller but more regular drip feed as and when they are ready?
