Winner Of A Seat At The PureMix MasterClass In New York

We are really pleased to be able to announce the winner of a seat at the next 2-Day Master Class. Mick Guzauski and Fab Dupont will join forces for two days of music production, recording and mixing on November 7th and 8th, at Flux Studios NYC worth $2,290 and Aaron McCourt is the lucky winner.

I’m a Toronto based recording, mixing & post-production engineer.   I attended the Music Industry Arts program through Fanshawe College in London, Ontario.  I got my start as an assistant in 2002 at McClear Digital Studios (a historic Toronto studio originally built by RCA, now a parking lot, sadly).  I then moved on for a couple of years assisting at Technicolor Creative Services (originally Sounds Interchange) before landing at Imprint Music as head engineer, which has been my home for the last 9 years (wow!).

Here at Imprint Music we do original music & full post production for commercials, TV and film. In my off-hours, I also work in studio with local bands and artists.  We’re fortunate to be one of the (very) few music houses here in Toronto who have a decent sized live floor, where we try to record real players whenever possible.  My work varies from day-to-day, from recording small orchestral sections, rock rhythm sections, advertising voiceover records, ADR & location audio cleanup, sound design & mixing.

I’m looking forward to seeing how Mick & Fab work with the artists they are recording, how they give constructive feedback which doesn't kill the vibe in the studio, and encourage the best performance from the artists they are working with.  I also look forward to learning any mixing tricks & techniques that can be applied both in my day-to-day post production & commercial work, as well as my after-hours work with bands and artists!

Aaron will be spending 2 intense days, living inside a pureMix.net tutorial, with a professional band in a world-class studio, with exceptional equipment and the added benefit of being able to hear what Mick and Fab hear in real time.

A significant portion of this master class will be dedicated to ear training and critical listening to make sure you leave the seminar with a new appreciation for quality tones.

During the recording segment, Fab and Mick will show how to choose the right piece of gear for the right sound source and demonstrate how to mic drums, bass, guitars and vocals by choosing the appropriate microphones and preamps, handle recording levels and make the best out of a hybrid digital / analog system.

During the mixing segment Aaron will learn how to mix a record according to Mick's high quality standards and intuition for music emotions. In order to achieve his vision, Mick will spare no detail in sharing his editing, compression, EQing approach and more.
