Avid Announce New Pro Tools Dock For iPad

Avid, the makers of Pro Tools, have announced the new Pro Tools Dock.

The Pro Tools Dock is a EUCON control surface for integrating the free iPad app, Pro Tools Control. The Dock is based on touchscreen found on the Master Touch Module of the Pro Tools S6.

The Dock can also be paired with the Pro Tools | S3, giving enhanced functionality with:

  • dedicated automation switches
  • transport controls
  • weighted aluminum jog wheel
  • color-coded Soft Key switches, and more

One person told us that Avid are trying to bring 'S6 style control to the Avid S3' on their web site Avid say:

"The image you see above on the iPad screen shows you the key concept of a ‘super’ Channel view. The Dock’s eight soft knobs can be used to control parameters like EQ (pictured), Dynamics, Panning, and Sends on the Attentioned (focused) channel – a la the S6 Master Touch Module. ‘Attentioning’ a track is as easy as touching the track tile on the screen and it brings it to the fader. This new ‘super’ Channel view on Pro Tools | Control is unlocked while using the Dock or S3."

Avid say that the Dock works standalone with an iPad and will be available in early 2016 (although please note that in the video the Avid representative calls it a 'technology preview' which means no commitment is made). It is expected to retail at $1,199 - the iPad Air is not included. The Dock also pairs with the S3 and offers a complete solution for around $6200.
