UK Mastering Engineer Ian Shepherd has teamed up with MeterPlugs to produce a rather useful tool for “In the box” mastering.

Louder Is Better Thoery

Perception tackles the feeling of “louder is better” when listening to two different audio sources side by side.

In essence Perception automatically level matches a “pre mastered” original version of the material against a post processed (mastered) version to allow you to make a seamless switch between them for perfect comparison when mastering.

Its GUI displays the difference between the pre and post processed material and displays the loudness in the EBU R128 International standard so you know you are metering correctly for commercial media standards release.

Perception Specification And Price

Perception get is official release next month and will be available in VST/AU and for Pro Tools users AAX 32 and 64 bit formats (a workaround for RTAS is being considered)
