Community Tip - Use Consistent Colour Coding For Ease Of Use

With the support of iLok, more tips & tricks from the community. Here is one from Kenneth Jung….

As many people already to, I’ve been trying to colour code the track according to the category. I’ve tried different colour schemes, but none of them was straightforward and easy to recognise until I made a simple yet intuitive scheme recently. I decided to match the first letter of the instrument to the colours, like this:

Bass - Blue

Guitars - Green

Pianos (and other keyboards) - Pink

Organs - Orange

Vocals - Violet

…and the like. I gave the master track with red, as it stands out from the bunch of tracks, and drums are left with yellow. I leave the aux tracks with the default colour, as I place them below the master fader anyway.

Mike says - Another tip showing a consistent labelling protocol that smooths the workflow. Choose the colours that work for you and then be consistent.
