Community Tip - Other Uses For Memory Locations In Pro Tools

With the support of iLok, more tips & tricks from the community,  this one is from Jamie Amos….

Of course, everyone knows about memory locations, and how they can divide sections of a song. Intro, chorus, verse, etc. There is an option that is largely overlooked when creating a memory location. Group enables.  In the “New Memory Location” dialogue box, we see an option for group enables. This is something I overlooked for years until working with this one engineer. Selecting “none” under time properties and selecting “Group Enables” under “General Properties” will take a snapshot of the groups currently enabled. I always use number “123” as my all group. This can speed up workflow when mixing. Sometimes I will save drums, guitars, or even vocal groups to memory locations as well.  Again, this is not a hidden feature. Though I’m sure this might be helpful to many.

Mike says - Yes there are all sorts of things that can be programmed into Memory Locations, not just locate points.
