Community Tip From Mark Phillips - Winner Of This Week's iLok

Mark’s video showing how this tip works. The community tips that you are sending in are so good that we have decided to publish them as stories rather than just read them out on the podcast. This week’s winner of an iLok is Mark Phillips who has developed a work round for PT vanilla users to be able to copy and paste plug-in automation. Mark says…

I was inspired by all the tips coming in from other people and thought I’d throw in one - it’s an advanced automation workaround for non-HD users (or users without CPTK) doing post work. Specifically, it’s a way to be able to audition an EQ setting for a small section of dialogue and then apply it to just that section of dialogue and then have the EQ revert back to the default setting. This is pretty simple stuff if you’re an HD user but kind of impossible if you’re not. I started to try and type out the explanation but quickly realised it would be pretty confusing to read. So I made a little video to explain the trick.

It is a great work round and problem is compounded because as you say there are no automation anchors so even if you copy the audio up from the work track it still doesn’t take the automation with it because there are no anchors, hence the need to have an automation track with dummy automation on every parameter.
