Bug Prevents Celemony And Possibly Other Plug-In Vendors Releasing AAX Plug-Ins

Uber clever developers Celemony, of Melodyne fame, have posted the following notice on their web site.

“Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to support Pro Tools 11 with AAX from day one of its release, as had previously been announced. There is still a bug in Pro Tools Version 11.0.0 that prevents Melodyne playing back audio at 96 or 192 kHz. Sadly, the problem this poses from our point of view is insurmountable.

Avid is aware of the bug, which it expects to fix in an upcoming service release of Pro Tools 11. As soon as this is done and we’ve tested everything thoroughly one last time, we will release online the Melodyne updates with AAX support.

Ed Gray, Director of Avid’s Partnering Program, has issued the following statement: “We are aware of the issues and have a good sense of how to address them and it is absolutely our intention to deliver fixes in the soonest occurring release vehicle practically possible. Avid wants to get Melodyne working flawlessly on Pro Tools 11 as soon as possible.”

Sadly, therefore, you cannot use Melodyne yet in Pro Tools 11. But you can continue to use it, of course, in Pro Tools 10, the license for which is retained on an update to 11.

We will inform you through the same channels as soon as the situation changes.

 Thank you for your understanding.”

Anything that stops vendors being able to port stable versions of their plug-ins across to AAX 64 bit is bound to be a problem for Avid who need plug-in support for their new 64 bit version of Pro Tools. As soon as we have news on the first CS release we will let you know.
