Avid Warn Not To Upgrade To OS X 10.9 Mavericks

See that ‘X’ in the graphic above, on this occasion it means ‘DON’T!’

Avid have posted a knowledgebase article warning Pro Tools users and those with Avid hardware not to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Sadly those needing to read and take this advice have perhaps already proceeded, if you are smart enough to wait a while then here is the advice.

It is not recommended to use Media Composer, Pro Tools or Sibelius with Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) as they are not supported at this time.

Pro Tools

The uninstaller for Pro Tools 10.3.7 and earlier will not work on Mac OS X 10.9.   For this reason Avid does not recommend using Pro Tools 10.3.7 or earlier with Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks).  PTSW-185438.

Increased -6101 errors with Pro Tools 11.0.2 and earlier using Built-In sound output on Mac OS X 10.9.  Pro Tools 11.0.x may encounter AAE error 6101 and Pro Tools 10.3.7 and earlier may encounter DAE error 6101 when using the built in sound output on the Mac with OS X 10.9.  This occurs with high frequency at HW Buffer sizes: 32, 64 and 128.  It occurs with lower frequency at HW Buffer sizes: 256, 512 and 1024.  This occurs with Error Suppression enable and disabled in the Playback Engine.   The error message is, “A CPU overload error occurred.”  PTSW-186179.

The Pro Tools HD driver and Nitris DX and Mojo DX driver un-installers won’t work on Mac OS X 10.9.  It is not possible to un-install the Pro Tools HD drivers, Nitris DX drivers or Mojo DX drivers on Mac OS X 10.9.  An update to these drivers will be provided that will be “signed” for installation and will allow the drivers to be un-installed.  PTSW-187157.

Nitris DX and Mojo DX drivers are not “signed” for Mac OS X 10.9. After rebooting the computer with a DX peripheral attached, an alert dialog is seen informing that the Kernel extension is not from an identified developer.  After dismissing the dialog the DX peripheral should be able to function.  UME-924.

Inability to use Venue Link with S3L and AVB with Mac OS X 10.9.  Selecting Avid AVB64 will result in error, “There are currently no interfaces in I/O Setup known to be connected to VENUE”.  There are no work arounds to this issue.  Sessions will not be created with Avid AVB64 as the peripheral.  PTSW-185903.

Avid AVB device appears multiple times in the Network Device selection on Mac OS X 10.  Within the Mac’s Audio MIDI Setup’s Network Device window the following Avid AVB devices are listed when an SL3 system is present: “Avid AVB64”, “AVB64”, “Stage16” and “S3Mix”.  Only the “Avid AVB64” should be selectable.  The “AVB64” refers to the “E3Engine64”.  PTSW-186310.

The Eleven Rack, 003, Digi 002, Mbox (3rd Gen), Fast Track models and Mobile Pre driver un-installers won’t work on Mac OS X 10.9.  It is not possible to un-install the drivers for the following: Eleven Rack, 003 Console, 003 Rack, Digi 002 Console, Digi 002 Rack, Mbox 3 Pro, Mbox 3, Mbox 3 Mini, Fast Track C600 & C400, Fast Track Ultra 8R & Ultra, Fast Track Pro & MKII and Mobile Pre MKII.
