Community Tip - Tightening Drums

With the support of iLok, more tips & tricks from the community. Here is one from Patrick Ondrus….

Ever have a client insist on drum tracks having a “live” feel and refuse to use a click track, yet you know the end product needs a more consistent feel? I’ll usually use a combo of “Tab to Transients” and “Identify Beats” to write a tempo map but only “identify” every other bar. I then will enable Elastic Audio on the tracks, switch the time base on the tracks from “samples” to “ticks”. Now when I adjust the tempo in the events window only my “identified” beats are the points of reference, and the audio in between maintains it’s relative looseness.  Using this method the amount of “tightening” applied is entirely dependent on the amount of beats “identified”. If I want it tighter I mark every bar, looser I mark every four bars, etc., etc.
