Avid Response To Pro Tools Track Hack

Pro Tools track hackAvid have posted a response to the news of the Pro Tools track hack in the DUC, it reads;

‘At this point it’s no surprise that the same ‘track preset’ code in Pro Tools SE is in the other versions of Pro Tools.

Part of the reason it isn’t documented in the other versions is because we weren’t satisfied with the workflow and there were improvements which needed to be made for it to be a complete feature.

We did include some basic presets (and the folder structure) in Pro Tools SE since that version was aimed at entry level users where presets are more of a necessity. We felt the benefits outweighed the current limitations there.

We acknowledge the usefulness of this functionality for users, and appreciate the resourcefulness of those that figured it out and documented it. ;-) It is important to consider that since this is not a supported feature in all versions that if it does appear in the future there’s no guarantee that it will work the same way or be compatible with user created presets. While there’s no intention to break it, we just might not be able to support it in future versions.

Now imagine if you got this response from Ford after finding a fuel saving button in the top of the range model.

At this point it’s no surprise that the same ‘fuel saving’ feature in the Ford Fiesta is also in the Mustang.

Part of the reason it isn’t documented in the other models is because we weren’t satisfied with the workflow and there were improvements which needed to be made for it to be a complete feature.

We did include some basic functionality in Fiesta since that model was aimed at entry level users where presets are more of a necessity. We felt the time saving benefits outweighed the current limitations there.

We acknowledge the usefulness of this functionality for users and the amount of fuel and money this saves, and appreciate the resourcefulness of those that figured it out and documented it. ;-) It is important to consider that since this is not a supported feature in all versions that if it does appear in the future there’s no guarantee that it will work the same way or be compatible with user created presets. Yep - that’s how bad a response it is. It does feel a little contradictory, if not condescending, tinged with a veiled threat. Although the parting shot seems plain silly - be warned if you pay to upgrade to a newer version of Pro Tools, this feature may not be in it, now there’s an incentive to spend more money on Pro Tools. Discuss.
